A thought inspired by "social networking"

Respect is a necessary but not sufficient requirement for friendship.

Interesting. Many people would say respect and mutual interest are the necessary elements. What further ingredients do you think are necessary?

Not a huge fan of social networking either, but it's definitely useful at times. However, it seems to create more "acquaintances" than friends

I think mutual goals, a shared conception of the good (or the good human life) and a disinterested concern for one another, such that I would rather the other's life go well than they be my friend, are necessary components.
